Part 8 · Chapter 54

The Ari's Text

Now, AVI, in whom there was nullification but not actual death, as there was in ZON, as above, also had within them the phases of male and female, each in its own right. That is, in the phase of two Partzufim like ZON. But they had an additional, immense bond: they are attached together face to face at all times, with only a single wall serving them both, and there is no separation at all between them — unlike ZON, who are joined when back to back, and separate when face to face.

Inner Light

This commentary hasn't been matched to individual seifim yet — items are shown in reading order, and the number beside each one counts the notes themselves, not the seifim of the Ari's text.

Not matched to a seif

1AVI: etc., they had an additional, immense bond, in that they are attached together face to face at all times by a single wall, etc.: For it was explained above (page 629, the passage beginning “and after”) that even the Gadlut of AVI emerged, too, in the discernment of face to back, for the Bina of the Rosh does not leave her posterior toward Aba except through the raising of MAN. See there. And this posterior is called wall, as above, for by this wall, AVI are stuck together, in an immense bond, face to face. And although Ima receives only Hassadim, nevertheless, in relation to themselves, these Hassadim are regarded as the discernment of face to face, for the reason that Hochma is not lacking to them, since they are the discernment of GAR, and only Hassadim are lacking to Ima, in the secret of “for she desires mercy.” And therefore, her receiving of the Hassadim from Aba is regarded, for her, as the entire filling of her completeness, and therefore this coupling is regarded as the discernment of face to face, even though she receives from him only the light of Hassadim.
