The Ari's Text

It is also called ‘a tower flying in the air,’ which is the phase of the Lamed itself. Now, it is suspended and held in the first phase, called air, and this is ‘a tower flying in the air.’ For you already know that the letter Lamed is called ‘a tower flying in the air,’ as stated in the Zohar, portion Yitro. This is the phase of this Lamed of Tzelem, which is the NHY of the third Tevuna. Understand this.

1A tower flying in the air, which is the discernment of the Lamed itself; now, it is suspended and held in the first phase, called air: For the Mem of Tzelem, which is AVI, is the very essence of the light, and the Lamed, which is YESHSUT, is only the discernment of garments for the TNHY of AVI, as above; and this is what he says, that the Lamed is suspended and held in the first phase, called air, and therefore it is called a tower flying in the air. For a tower means the light of Gadlut and the illumination of Hochma, and nevertheless it is suspended and drawn from the light of Hassadim of AVI. Understand this. And see the Zohar, Yitro, page 91a.
