Part 13 · Chapter 137

The Ari's Text

*Know that from the head of Arich Anpin is drawn one lock (kutza) of hair that hangs down to the head of Zeir Anpin, as mentioned in Idra Rabba, page 129, side A, and page 131, side B. And it shines within the Mochin of Zeir Anpin and brings out their illumination to the outside, as is known.

Inner Light

1 One lock of hair that hangs to the Rosh of Zeir Anpin, and behold it shines in the Mochin of Zeir Anpin and brings out their illumination to the outside: That is, the illumination of the four Nimin [strands] of hair that are behind the Rosh [head] of Arich Anpin, which is from the discernment of Mocha Stimaa [the concealed brain], as above — reckoned as the principal surrounding light of the discernment of the light of Hochma. For the nine Nimin of hair that stand at the right and left of the face of Arich Anpin are from the discernment of Galgalta and the air, which are the discernment of GAR [first three] and ZAT of Bina, which do not themselves need an illumination of Hochma. For even the four Nimin of hair on the left of the Rosh, which are the discernment of the air, which is the discernment of Lamed of Tzelem [image], also do not need an illumination of Hochma, but only in order to bestow upon Mocha Stimaa, as above. And these four Nimin of hair, behind the Rosh of Arich Anpin, extend to the Chazeh [chest], where Zeir Anpin stands at the time of his Gadlut; and these four Nimin of hair are found to reach the Rosh of Zeir Anpin and bestow upon him an illumination of Hochma. Now this bestowal of the lock of hair within the Mochin of Zeir Anpin is reckoned by the name striking and clash, because they are the opposite of the discernment of the Mochin of Zeir Anpin, which are in the discernment of covered Hassadim. Therefore, when this illumination comes into the Mochin of Zeir Anpin, they strike one another — meaning, they cannot stand and be found in one vessel, which is the forehead of Zeir Anpin, which is the discernment of Mem of Tzelem, which limits the Mochin to the measure of GAR of Bina, as above. For the Galgalta of Zeir Anpin, whose discernment of the face is called the forehead, receives from the discernment opposite it, from the Galgalta of Arich Anpin, and is corrected in the discernment of Mem of Tzelem like it; and therefore it is compelled to go out from the vessel of the forehead to the outside in the discernment of surrounding light, called the tefillin of the head. And this is what he said: “it shines in the Mochin of Zeir Anpin and brings out their illumination to the outside” — meaning, that it shines to the Mochin in the discernment of Hochma, and this part that receives the illumination of Hochma cannot stand within the forehead, but goes out to the outside.
