The Ari's Text

Now, there is a difference between the souls of the righteous and ZON, for the souls of the righteous do not ascend in the secret of MAN upward into ZON except at night, at the time of lying down, as above, because the dominion of the upper Malchut is only at night. But ZON ascend in the secret of MAN by day and by night, in the secret of the Shema of Arvit and of Shaharit, up to the upper Ima. As is explained by us. And the reason is that the coupling of AVI never ceases, and they are never separated, and the dominion of the upper Ima is by day and by night, for she is always in union together with Aba.
