The Ari's Text

Now, you already know that every day and day the upper Mochin return and withdraw from ZON, and behold, those Mochin are within the NHY of Ima, as is known; and since the NHY withdraw, all the more so that also the hands of Ima, which are higher than the NHY, withdraw also upward, and her vessel is annulled.

Inner Light

1 The hands of Ima, etc., withdraw also upward, and her vessel is annulled: The five Gevurot of Gadlut that the Nukva receives from Ima are regarded as the hands of Ima — meaning the discernment of HGT, called hands, which is the secret of the five fingers that hint at the five Gevurot of Gadlut. And the reason for this is that while she is clinging to the NHY of ZA back to back, she then has only the five Gevurot of Katnut from the NHY of Ima that are within ZA, which are the NHY of the NHY of Ima — meaning they are the discernment of VAK lacking a Rosh [head], and she does not even have GAR of Ruach, because she has nothing but GE, and she then lacks her own AHP, called NHY. And as long as she lacks the ten Sefirot of vessels, she cannot receive any GAR at all. However, at the ascent of MAN of ZA at night, when he receives from the coupling of AB and SAG that brings the bottom Hey down from the Einayim to the mouth, and the AHP return to all the degrees, so that the NHY become HGT, as is known — the Nukva is then found to receive from the HGT of the NHY of Ima, called hands, and then new NHY come out in her — meaning that she attains her own AHP, and is completed in the ten Sefirot of vessels. Therefore the five Gevurot of Gadlut are regarded by the name hands of Ima, as explained. And these aforementioned AHP are the discernment of the vessel that Ima establishes in her Yesod — see above, page 744, item 13; page 748, item 21; and page 790, item 87 — study it there well, and it will be further explained before us below.
