The Ari's Text

And the matter is that we already explained that in the First Temple they were face to face up above, in the sixth aspect, and the five [Sefirot] illuminated in her; and then she is called “the moon in its completeness,” in the fullness of the moon on the fifteenth of the month, in the secret of fifteen: the Hey upon the Yud, as above. It is found that when they are there above, she is also called the upper Hey. But in the Second Temple, when on weekdays she was face to face in his four lower [Sefirot], and she was the fifth to them, then she is called the lower Hey.

1When they are there above, she too is called the upper Hey; but in the Second Temple etc. she is called the lower Hey. As is written above, that when they are in the sixth discernment, ZON are found clothing the upper AVI, as on Shabbat in Musaf, and the Nukva is found clothing the upper Ima, who is called the upper Hey; and therefore the Nukva too is called by the name upper Hey. But in the Second Temple, where there were only the Mochin of YESHSUT permanently, ZON are then found still clothing from the Chazeh [chest] and below of AA, for the place of YESHSUT is from the Chazeh and below of AA; therefore, even though the Nukva clothes Tevuna, she is nevertheless regarded only as the lower Hey, since from the Chazeh and below is the discernment of the bottom Hey, as is known. And likewise with respect to ZA, she too is regarded as still clothing from his Chazeh and below, that is, the old NHY that became HGT for Jacob, which with respect to himself are still NHY, for these Mochin of YESHSUT are not reckoned in him as Mochin of HBD, as above; and therefore the Nukva is reckoned as the bottom Hey, since she does not nurse from the upper Hey, which is Bina.
