The Ari's Text

And the matter is that you already know that there are thirteen corrections in AA of Atzilut, which are the channels from which light flows from there. And by this the light was diminished and distanced from there very much. Therefore it could not bring out against them in Beriah the head in the thirteen corrections of the beard.

1Thirteen corrections, which are pipes, etc., and therefore it could not bring out against them in Beria the Rosh [head] in the thirteen corrections of the beard. And one must understand what he added by this, since he says that the Rosh of AA is missing, surely the thirteen corrections of the Dikna [beard] are also missing in AA of Beria. Indeed, the ARI hinted here at a great matter. For there are three principal discernments in the worlds as a whole: The first is the five Partzufim of AK up to AA of Atzilut, where the light of Hochma illuminates in completeness, that is, the Hochma of direct light. The second is AVI and ZON of Atzilut, in whom the Hochma of direct light no longer illuminates, for the Hochma of direct light was blocked in the third Rosh of AA, and all the Hochma that illuminates in Atzilut in AVI, YESHSUT and ZON is nothing but the discernment of the Hochma of the thirty-two paths, which is called the AB of the Mazal, the meaning of which is the discernment of Bina that ascended to the GAR of AA and returned to being Hochma, through the MAN [Mayin Nukvin] and MAD [male waters] of the Dikna; and from this Bina, which returned to being Hochma, come all the Mochin of AB that are in AVI, YESHSUT and ZON, as the ARI wrote above, page 1549, item 95; see there, in the Inner Light. The third is the Mochin of the Partzufim of Beria, for in them there are no longer even the Mochin of AB of the Mazal, for the AB of the Mazal was blocked in the screen between Atzilut and Beria, and there are in them only the Mochin of Bina alone, which are the discernment of covered Hassadim.
And this is what he says, “it could not bring out against them in Beria the Rosh in the thirteen corrections of the Dikna,” that is, in what he said previously, that the Rosh of AA could not be clothed in Beria, there was room to err, that only the GAR of AA, which is the discernment of the Hochma of direct light, cannot be clothed in Beria, but the discernment of AB of the Mazal, which comes out upon the thirteen corrections of the Dikna, which is Bina that returned to being Hochma, can be clothed in Beria. And therefore he informs us that even the Rosh that comes out upon the thirteen corrections of the Dikna of AA cannot come out in Beria. For the screen blocks even the AB of the Mazal, so that it cannot be clothed in Beria, as above.
