The Ari's Text

*The root of the attachment of the Klipot is in the three lower ones of each world. However, in the rest of the seven first ones there is also Klipa. And just as there are ascents in holiness, where the internality of the lower one becomes the externality of the upper one, and through this the illumination is mellowed and sweetened, so too in the Klipot they also ascend in this manner: the internality of the lower one becomes the externality of the upper one, and through this they are sweetened and do not become attached.

1And just as there are ascents in holiness etc. so too in the shells: Meaning, at the time that Assiya ascends to Yetzira, the Atik of Assiya of the shell is lost, and there remains only the AA of the shell, as in Yetzira. And when Yetzira ascends to Beria, there remain in them only AVI, and when Beria ascends to Atzilut, AVI too are concealed from them, and there remain only the ZON of the shells.
