The Ari's Text

There is yet another reason, and it is close and drawn with the aforementioned reason. And it is that ZA still has in him only the six extremities, for he is the secret of the Vav of the holy Name; and in order to give birth to souls, he must first give, in the first union, the aspect of that spirit that the husband leaves in her in the first coupling, as is known by us, by which the female can raise Mayin Nukvin. And behold, he cannot yet give in her but a spirit comprising only his six extremities; therefore he cannot give birth, for he still has in him only the Mochin needed for himself and not for others. For this is the secret of the reason of what our sages said in the Gemara: a minor merits for himself and does not merit for others.

1 A spirit comprising only his six extremities, and therefore he cannot give birth: For before the first union, he has only the VAK of Ruach, which is then in the discernment of GE and lacks AHP; and through the second Ibur he acquires AHP, and his vessels are completed to ten Sefirot, and he acquires the discernment of GAR of Ruach, as is known. And so it is with his Nukva, who, before the second Ibur, is in the discernment of back to back with ZA, and has only VAK of Ruach; and through the coupling of the night at midnight, which is then the discernment of the first union, she attains GAR of Ruach, called the Rucha that the husband leaves in her in the first union, and then she is fit to raise MAN for the purpose of giving birth, in the coupling of the day, in Sim Shalom, as is known.
