Thus, the throat is made from the aforementioned phase of vacant and empty space, and therefore ZA is called there the phase of voice, as mentioned. This is what is said in tractate Sotah, chapter 9 (page 45b): ‘From where do they measure for him? From the place where a slain body is found — from his neck,’ as it is written, ‘if a slain body is found in the land,’ for indeed the neck is made in the phase of empty space. Therefore the neck is named after that space.
