And it seems to me, from what it says, 'that the holy King should couple with the Matronita' — namely the Mayin Nukvin that go out through the Yesod, the springs of the well and the foundation, and they arouse the coupling for the King to couple with the Matronita; that is what it says 'my spikenard,' which is her Yesod; and that is 'sent forth its fragrance,' from below upward, like the matter of the scent.

1The springs of the well and the foundation, etc., that is what it says, ‘my spikenard,’ which is the Yesod in her; and that is ‘sent forth its fragrance,’ from below upward. Here he explains the above matter of “he delights in this delight and daintiness” not as referring to the discernment of the earlier coupling of ZA himself, but as referring to the time of the couplings with the separated Nukva; and he infers it precisely from what the Zohar says there, “my spikenard sent forth its fragrance,” namely that this is the Yesod of the Nukva that is separated from him. For so the expression “my spikenard” implies: it is the Gevurot that have already been separated and have descended from him, and now he receives from them the secret of the fragrance from below upward, which is the secret of the illumination of Hochma that he receives from his Nukva from below upward. And then he has, from his own discernment, the discernment of delight, namely from the inheritance of his father and his mother; and from the discernment of what he receives from the Nukva he has the dainties of kings; and he is thus found to delight in both discernments. And the matter of the springs of the well and the foundation: they are the two discernments of internality and externality that are in her Yesod, as we shall write further on. For the springs of the well are the discernment of MAN [Mayin Nukvin] in the Yesod of the Nukva, and the foundation is the discernment of the MAD [male waters] in her. And see below.
