- But these Gevurot are sweeter and more mitigated than those Gevurot that were given in her through the spread of the Supernal Ima within her at the time of the deep sleep of ZA, as mentioned in the secret of the sawing. And the reason: at the time of the deep sleep of ZA, his soul, which is his mochin, ascended above, in Aba and Ima, in the aspect of Mayin Nukvin, and caused a supernal coupling in them; and by means of that coupling these Gevurot were sweetened and mitigated more than they were at first. And now he gives them to the Nukva by means of the Shofar blast.

And this is what he says, that these judgments that the Nukva received above in the Heichal of AVI, through the clothing of the NHY of Ima within her, were not yet sweetened as they should be; for she is found there above her degree, and she lacks the illumination of the coupling of ZA himself, who is her upper one, and this is reckoned a deficiency in her, because of the skipping of a degree. But after the Shofar blast, when ZA himself once again gives her these Gevurot by himself, it follows that the illumination of the coupling that ZA himself received in AVI illuminates in these Gevurot too; so there is here a double sweetening, and therefore they were sweetened the more. For there is in them the illumination of the coupling of the Nukva herself, which she received at the time of the deep slumber through her inclusion and her receiving of the NHY of Ima, and this is the first sweetening. And there is in them the illumination of the coupling of ZA, which he received at the time of the deep slumber, through his inclusion in the NHY of Aba from his own side, and also in the NHY of Ima from the side of his receiving the Mochin of the Nukva as well, in order to bestow upon her after his descent below by means of the Shofar blast. And this is the second sweetening.
And this is what he says, “And there are found in her two discernments of Gevura: the first, which she received from Ima at the time of the sawing, which were strong Gevurot and strong judgments; and the second, which she received from ZA after he awakened from his sleep by means of the Shofar blast, which are Gevurot more sweetened and mitigated” — that is, as above, that there are in these Gevurot two sweetenings: the first, what she received of herself directly from Ima; and the second, what ZA received on her behalf and gave to her after his descent below by means of the Shofar blast. And when he says that they are two discernments of Gevura, the intention is not that they are two kinds of Gevura, for none were sawn off save the Gevurot that are from the Chazeh [chest] of ZA upward to his Keter, which are the discernment of the great Nukva, as above. Rather the intention is that there are in them two kinds of sweetening: the first is through the receiving of the Nukva herself from Ima, which is an incomplete sweetening; and the second, which comes through ZA, which is a more complete sweetening. And from this discernment they are reckoned as two discernments, but from the discernments of the Gevurot that are sawn from ZA they are one discernment, as explained. And when he says that they are strong Gevurot and strong judgments, it refers to the two discernments of the Gevurot together, which are only one kind, as above. But he emphasises this in order to let us know that, because they are strong judgments, their sharpness therefore did not abate in the first sweetening, and only in the second sweetening were they sweetened and became more sweetened and mitigated. And the reason they are reckoned as strong judgments is that they are the Gevurot of the male himself, which are sawn from his KHBD HGT, and which come from the Malchut of the first restriction, as above (page 1747, the passage beginning “The male”); and therefore they are strong judgments. And for this reason the first day of Rosh HaShanah is reckoned as harsh judgment, as is written below.
