And it is found that there is a coupling, only it is not complete. And this is what is said in the portion Lech Lecha: 'do not say "when they join," but rather they surely join' — to say that they never separate, for they are called companions, as is stated in the portion Vayikra; and it is not appropriate to say 'when they join,' which seems to imply that there is a time when they are not joined, for they are surely always joined; and it did not say 'when they join' except to say that when they join in a complete union — there is a time when they are not complete.
