For after she had been grown, back to back, from his chest downward, she was then receiving her illuminations through his partitions, secondary to him and lesser than he. And in order that she be corrected more, completely, not by means of him, the Mochin must withdraw from him; and this withdrawal is called sleep.

1That she be corrected more, completely, not by means of him: Meaning, that the Katnut, the Nukva can receive from ZA himself, in the secret of the vessel and Rucha within him, and does not need the rising of MAN for the coupling of AVI. But the discernment of GAR and Mochin, the Nukva must receive not by means of ZA, but only from the coupling of AVI. And so it is in all the Partzufim: that the vessel and Rucha suffice for them to influence the Mochin of Katnut, in the secret of the coupling that is only to give life; but for the Mochin, the vessel and Rucha do not suffice for them, and they need the raising of MAN and the coupling of the AVI of the one above them (see Etz Chaim, Gate 29, Chapter 2).
