  1. It was already explained there, too, that what Atik selected the first time was to correct the very self of the Partzuf of Arich Anpin at the beginning of its correction, and he gave them to Arich Anpin as Mochin. And from these Hesed and Gevura (HaG) that Atik gave to Arich Anpin the first time, the Partzuf of Arich Anpin, male and female, was built and corrected, and they remained there permanently, forever fixed. And when Arich Anpin, in turn, selects for the sake of Aba ve Ima, to correct them the first time, then the coupling of Atik, male and female, must first precede it, and they return to draw new Mochin to Arich Anpin and Nukva, so that they may select the selections of the parts of Aba ve Ima. Then the new HaG come to them: the Hasadim from MA and the Gevurot from BON. And then, within Arich Anpin, the parts of Aba ve Ima are corrected there, as mentioned there. Thus there are two kinds of Hasadim and Gevurot: the first are the original ones, to correct the Partzuf; the second are the new ones that are drawn in each and every coupling, each and every time, which do not remain there permanently, but are corrected and formed into the shape of an offspring, and are born there.

  1. 1And when AA in turn sorts for the sake of AVI, to correct them the first time, then the coupling of Atik, male and female, must precede it: As was explained above (page 638, the passage beginning “And it is necessary”), the coupling of AA does not suffice to sort the sortings of AVI, because he is only the lower half of the Keter. Rather, he must join and become one degree together with the Nukva of Atik, who is the upper half of the Keter of Nekudim; and then the Keter is in its wholeness as it was at the time of Nekudim, at the time when the Keter clothed as Mochin in AVI, who are the MAN [Mayin Nukvin] that rose, and then he will be able to correct them. See there.
And this is what he says: “The coupling of Atik, male and female, must precede it, and they return to draw new Mochin to AA and Nukva, so that they may sort the sortings of the parts of AVI, etc., and then the parts of AVI are corrected there within AA.” That is, as has been explained, AA joins with Atik into a single Partzuf, and AA acquires new Mochin through this joining of his. Then he has the illumination of the Keter in its wholeness, and he can correct the sortings of AVI, in such a way that the coupling is ascribed to Atik, but the one who sorts for the Mochin of AVI is only AA, for AA is that part of the Keter which was clothed in these AVI at the time of Nekudim as Mochin. And by virtue of this relation he sorts them now as well.
  2. 2The first are the original ones, that correct the Partzuf; the second are the new ones that are drawn in every, and so on: For at first, the two couplings of Katnut and Gadlut were made for the sake of the Partzuf itself, as above, and after the Partzuf itself was corrected, the lower Partzufim ascend to it as MAN [Mayin Nukvin], and they are regarded by it as new HaG, for they are not for its own sake but for the sake of the lower ones. And know that all the Mochin are called by the name HaG, for all the couplings that are made through MAN do not contain the actual light of Hochma, but rather the discernment of HaG in the illumination of Hochma, as above in Part 7.
  3. 3They do not remain there permanently, but are corrected and formed into the shape of an offspring: That is, in the manner explained above (page 628, the passage beginning “and after”), how the coupling of Atik that is upon the MAN of AHP of the Keter of BON, which drew forth upon them ten Sefirot at the level of Hochma — behold, these ten Sefirot did not remain fixed in Atik, but were corrected and formed into the Rosh [head] of AA, which is the offspring born through this coupling. And in like manner, every lower one is born through the inclusion of the coupling in the Rosh of the upper one; but when its coarseness becomes discernible, it goes out from there and descends to its place.
And besides the above, there are additional discernments of HaG that emerge in the coupling within the Partzuf, and are regarded in it as not permanent. This is because the lower one receives no illumination whatsoever except from Ein Sof, and when the abundance passes from Ein Sof to the lower ones, it passes through all the preceding Partzufim to the lower one, and this abundance is termed, among the upper ones, as not fixed in them, because it is not for their own sake. There is more to say on this, and it will be explained in its place.
