- Thus, at first the four Mochin themselves were discernible, hence it is called the Mem of Tzelem. But here their existence is concealed, and only the garments — namely the aforementioned NHY of Tevuna — are discernible. That NHY is called the Lamed of Tzelem, and the aspect of the Mochin is concealed and covered within this Lamed.

But in the NHY of the third Tevuna, which is the discernment of YESHSUT within it, where the Hassadim can be revealed, as above, this coupling of Hesed and Gevura is made there, which raise reflected light up to Hochma and Bina, and bring out the illumination of Hochma outward, and this coupling unites Hesed and Gevura into one brain, by the name the brain of Daat. And there is much understanding here. For the very existence of the Mochin is from the upper AVI, that is, from the Mem of Tzelem, and behold, in them there is no place for the revelation of the illumination of Hochma, but they are the discernment of Hassadim without the illumination of Hochma, as above. And when they descend in the second expansion to the Lamed of Tzelem, the intense dominion that was in them from their source in the Mem, to cover the Hochma, is concealed, and they receive the discernment of the dominion of the new garments, which are YESHSUT, and the HG become united, and reveal the illumination of Hochma as is the nature of YESHSUT.
And this is what he says, “but here their existence is concealed, and only the garments are discernible, which are the NHY of Tevuna, and are called the Lamed of Tzelem, and the discernment of the Mochin is concealed and covered within this Lamed”: meaning, as explained, that although the nature of these Mochin, from their source, is an ingrained desire to cover the Hochma, in the secret of “for He desires mercy,” yet when they come to the place of the NHY of the third Tevuna, which is the discernment of YESHSUT, and clothe in them, the power of covering that is in the Mochin becomes concealed in the garments, which are YESHSUT, and the garments overpower them and bring out and reveal the illumination of Hochma in the Hassadim. As above.
