It is thus found that the principal illumination and revelation of the Mochin in a person is through Daat, and it is that which gives him knowledge. And therefore the fetus, in which the brain of Daat has not yet been revealed at all, and also the two Mochin of HB are sealed, as mentioned, therefore the fetus has no Daat at all, and it is like a silent stone, unlike the time of nursing, when it already has some Daat for what it needs, as above.

1The revelation of the Mochin in a person is through Daat, and it is that which gives him knowledge; and therefore the fetus has no Daat at all, etc.: For Daat is the phase of the coupling made in the Rosh [head], in the HG within it, and the upper light is drawn through Hochma and Hassadim, and strikes the crown of Gevura within it, and reflected light rises up to Hochma, and brings out the illumination of Hochma outward, and it is bestowed upon Bina — which is the secret that Daat couples HB from below upward. And afterward this level descends the whole extent of that same measure, from below upward, and it expands also from above downward into the body, and the Hassadim are revealed in the illumination of Hochma, from the chest down of the body, as is known. Now all this is at the time of greatness, but in their smallness, and all the more so in the fetus, which then has only the phase of the coarseness of the light of Nefesh, that is, only from the level of Malchut, and is not fit for any coupling — rather, it eats what Ima eats, that is, through the couplings that Ima makes; but of itself it has no power of coupling at all, and therefore it is reckoned to have no Daat, and consequently the Mochin cannot be revealed in it, for there is nothing to couple them, and therefore they are silent — and just as it has no Mochin, so it is silent.
