*And behold, we have already explained above that there are two kinds of couplings for Aba and Ima of Atzilut: the first is their being equal and long, in all the height of their stature; the second is their being of short stature, as above, which is the secret of Yeshsut. And behold, these two kinds of couplings also exist in ZON: the first is when ZON are equal in their stature; the second is when the Nukva reaches only up to the chest of ZA, while they are back to back. Now, the first coupling is called the face-to-face (Panim be-Panim) coupling, and the second is called back to back (Achor be-Achor). And now that you know the divisions of ABYA, how they are, we will explain and say: behold, since all the existence of procreation of new souls is only through the upper Mochin of Aba and Ima, as above, therefore, up to the place that the illumination of the coupling of Aba and Ima reaches, there is there the aspect of procreation and coupling; but from there and onward there is no coupling.

1Two kinds of couplings for AVI etc. And the second coupling of AVI of Atzilut is more inferior; therefore it is for the need of AVI of Beria, that they give Mochin to ZON of Beria. Meaning: that the first coupling of AVI is at the time when they become one Partzuf with YESHSUT and rise to the GAR [first three] of AA, and they have the level of AB; and then they can bestow Mochin of birth upon ZON of Atzilut. And the second coupling of AVI is at the time when AVI are Mochin of SAG and clothe only from the Peh [mouth] of AA and below, and the coupling is made in YESHSUT in the secret of the bowing of the head of AVI toward them, for the upper AVI are both called Aba, and YESHSUT are both called Ima, as is known. And this coupling does not suffice for Mochin of birth, but only to give life to the worlds alone. And the reason is that it is the discernment of covered Hassadim, like the nature of the Bina of direct light, whose Mochin are in the secret of “for He desires mercy” and which rejects the illumination of Hochma; and therefore there is no discernment of birth in these Mochin, for there are no Mochin of birth for ZA except in the light of Haya, that is, in the illumination of Hochma.
And even so, although the Mochin of SAG do not suffice for the discernment of birth for ZON, as above, nevertheless they suffice for Mochin of birth for the sake of the world of Beria; and this is because the world of Beria is entirely the discernment of Bina, for even the place of BYA was made from the two thirds of Tifferet from the Chazeh [chest] downward of the ZAT of Nekudim, which are the ZON of Bina of the Guf [body], and all the more so the Partzufim [pl. of Partzuf] of Beria, which had already risen and become the discernment of YESHSUT of Atzilut before the sin. And therefore, even after the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, when Beria fell below the Parsa of Atzilut, nevertheless the form of her vessel was not lost because of this, and even now she is regarded entirely as the discernment of vessels of Bina. And therefore she too is in the discernment of “desires mercy,” like the Bina of direct light, and rejects Hochma from herself. And therefore even now she can receive the Mochin of YESHSUT of Atzilut, as she used to receive before her fall below the Parsa, for the Parsa does not cut off the light of Bina at all, for the restriction applies only to Hochma alone. And therefore AVI of Beria have complete Mochin of YESHSUT of Atzilut, that is, the level of SAG, in which there are Mochin of birth, for since, in her case, they are the discernment of GAR, they suffice for her for Mochin of birth.
And this is what he says, “And the second coupling of AVI, etc., the Mochin of ZON of Beria, to give birth to the truly new souls of the angels, which is her conjugal right stated in the Torah, etc., and this is the secret of ‘Ima nests in the throne’” — that is, as above, for even at the time of her being below the Parsa, she can receive Mochin of YESHSUT of Atzilut as at the time when she was clothing YESHSUT of Atzilut, for the Parsa does not cut off the light of Ima at all, as above; and therefore Ima nests in the throne, for YESHSUT itself of Atzilut can be clothed in AVI of Beria and give Mochin of the birth of the souls of new angels to ZON of Beria.
