  1. And just as the Holy One, blessed be He, sits and roars over his mate who was banished from him, so too the Nukva cries and screams and roars to her husband — he is within, in Atzilut, and she is outside, in Beria. And this is the secret of 'O God, be not silent to You, God, be not still and be not quiet, etc.,' expounded in the Zohar, portion Lech Lecha, as above, concerning the Shekhina, which is called Elohim and is called El, for El is similar to her; and 'be not silent, and be not quiet' — with the voice of her cry, may her Beloved raise her from the pit of ruin to her first place, with him, in the world of Atzilut.

  1. 1And just as the Creator sits and roars over his mate who was banished from him, so too the Nukva cries and screams and roars to her husband — he is within, in Atzilut, and she is outside, in Beria: Meaning, that there are two matters to be discerned here as one. On the one hand there are great delights: both for ZA in Atzilut, from the coupling with Leah face to face in his whole level, and for the Nukva Rachel, who has great delights with the souls of the righteous, whom she saved from the depth of the shells and joined to her holiness and her own self, as above. And on the other hand, there is here a very great weeping and roaring: for after the Nukva has already attained her precious lost object, namely the souls of the righteous, and finds herself with them in a single domain, she begins to draw to her place ZA her husband, in order to couple with him in the place of BYA, in the secret of MAN [Mayin Nukvin] reaching, leg to leg, so that he may return BYA to being Atzilut, and the impurity be nullified from the earth. And this is the secret of, “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, bitter weeping; Rachel weeps for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, for they are not.” And seemingly it should have said “for they are not” in the plural, and not “for he is not” in the singular. But by what is explained you will well understand, that the weeping is over her children, who are the souls of the righteous who joined to her in the secret of MAN, as above; and she has no light of Atzilut at all to sustain them and complete them fully, because ZA her husband cannot cross the border of Atzilut and couple with her in BYA over the MAN of the souls within her, as above.
And this is that she weeps over her children, “for he is not” — because ZA her husband is not with her in her domain, in coupling. And this is what the ARI writes, “that Rachel roars from outside, meaning from her place in Beria,” meaning, that she roars for ZA to come to her, in the aspect of Atzilut within him, to her place in Beria. However ZA is the opposite: he weeps and roars for her to ascend to him, to the place of Atzilut, and there he will bestow upon her all good. However Rachel “refuses to be comforted,” but longs for him to come to her place. And this continues until the light of morning, when she listens to him through the abundance of the flow of Hassadim, and ascends to Atzilut, as is written in the morning prayer. Thus it has been well explained, that on the one hand there are great delights both for ZA and for Rachel, and on the other hand there are roars and weepings both for ZA and for Rachel. And all of these come together with the Mochin of midnight, at once.
