1“And the moon, although it is below the Yesod, nevertheless its root is in the secret of the Hey: Dalet-Vav, and in the secret of the Yud: Yod, Vav, Dalet, Vav, Dalet, engraved in the Yesod; and this root is in Hochma and Bina, and from there they descend to the Yesod.” Explanation: for the discernment of the moon in her root is from the discernment of the Malchut of the first restriction, which is phase four of the direct light that served in AK, and is the secret of the path that is not known, neither above nor below (as above on page 1523, item 53. See there). And therefore he asks: is she not the discernment of the Partzuf of the Nukva, who is below the Yesod of ZA? And if so, how can it be said that she is included in the Yesod of ZA? And it is even harder: this Malchut does not serve at all in the Partzufim [pl. of Partzuf] of Atzilut, so how can it be said that she is included in the Yesod of ZA, in the discernment of the hidden sun and moon? And to this he answers that in Atzilut too two roots of Malchut are discerned: that the Malchut of the first restriction shows her power in the upper Ima, who is the secret of the Nukva of the Yod of the name HaVaYaH, that is, that she is included in it in the Vav-Dalet of the filling of the Yod. And this is as the ARI wrote above, in the secret of the Butzina de Kardinuta [the lamp of darkness] that is included in the upper Ima, which reaches her from the Gevura of Atik and from the Dikna [beard], at the time of the ascent of AVI to the GAR of AA; and this is the secret of the Vav-Dalet of the filling of Yod. And the Malchut of the second restriction alone is discerned only in Tevuna, who is the secret of the Hey of the name HaVaYaH, a Dalet upon a Vav; and this Malchut has in her no power whatsoever of the revelation of the first restriction. And the ARI says that the discernment of the hidden sun and moon that are drawn from the inheritance [Achsanta] of AVI, as above — there is in them the discernment of the Malchut of the Vav-Dalet of the filling of the Yod, for they are the discernment of the upper AVI; and from them she was drawn to the discernment of the hidden sun and moon in the Yesod.
And this is what he says (in item 83), “and the rest of the candles of light are the five planets, which with the sun and the moon are seven, etc.” For all that has been spoken concerning the hidden sun and moon and the stars and the Mazalot is from the discernment of what the Yesod draws from above in the discernment of bestowal. But the matter of the seven planets, among which are the sun and the moon, does not pertain to the discernment of the bestowal of the Yesod; rather the intention is to the construction of the Yesod itself. For the vessel of the Yesod includes in its construction all the five extremities, and its own measure, and also the measure of the female, who is Malchut. And therefore there are in its construction seven planets.
