And this is the secret of the matter of Haman's dispute with Achashverosh, whether this counsel would succeed in their hands; and Haman answered him, "There is a certain people..." — his sleep is with them, etc.; and the Sages interpreted: their God is asleep. Understand this. And since that dormita is for the good of Israel, so that the female may be sawed from his back and they return face to face, and Israel will be redeemed, and the Temple will be built, therefore the two of them took counsel: that at that time, when their God is asleep, they should hasten to destroy and annihilate the enemies of Israel, so that not even a few of them remain who would be worthy of redemption, and thus the Temple would not be built. And it is known, the counsel of Haman and of Shimshai the scribe, his son, and their writings, to Achashverosh, who is called Artachshasta in the book of Ezra, until the building of the Temple would be annulled, when they saw that its time to be built had arrived. And this suffices.
