And this is the secret of the reason why they instituted the Shema in the morning, at the time of the sacrifices (Korbanot), in addition to the second Shema, the main one, which is in the Yotzer. And behold, in the Shema of the order of the sacrifices, we draw from the interiority of Arich Anpin. And afterwards, in the Shema of Yotzer, we draw from the externality of Atik, as mentioned, which is a higher and more exalted place; and after we have already drawn enough of the portion befitting this coupling, we couple them together in the prayer of the Amidah (standing prayer).

1 And this is the secret of the reason why they instituted the Shema in the morning, at the time of the sacrifices, besides the second Shema, the main one, which is in the Yotzer: For since ZON returned to the discernment of the Katnut of the NR [Nefesh-Ruach] of nursing at the end of the night, meaning that the vessel, which is the secret of AHP, returned and departed, as above, it is found that they are again not fit for coupling, and again need the first intercourse, to make her a vessel; and for this drawing of the first intercourse they instituted the Shema at the time of the sacrifices, in order to make her a vessel. And afterwards they are fit to ascend as MAN to AVI for the sake of the GAR of Mochin, and this ascent is made in the Shema of Yotzer Or, at which point ZON themselves are fit for coupling face to face in Sim Shalom. Thus it is found that within the day itself, two discernments of Shema are needed: one is that of the sacrifices, which is the first intercourse to make her a vessel; and the second, that of Yotzer Or, is the ascent of MAN for actual Mochin. For before they attain the completion of the vessels, namely the return of AHP, they are not fit to ascend as MAN to AVI, as above (page 787, the passage beginning “Dalet”).
