And the Shema upon the bed, we must make it anew, and the Shema of the evening prayer does not suffice, as the Shema of the morning sufficed for the coupling of the Mincha prayer. And the reason is that when it is still day, the Mochin do not depart completely; therefore in Mincha there is no need for the Shema anew. Unlike once night has been made, then the Mochin depart completely; therefore the Shema anew is needed, for the sake of the coupling that will be afterwards at midnight. And the reason that we are early, to read that Shema at the time of lying down, will be explained in its place further on, with the help of God.
