  1. *And know that the external body of ZA is called Tifferet, comprising the six sides, and Jacob. And the inner body of ZA is called Daat — Tifferet within, which comes in the six sides; and it is the secret of Moses and Israel. Therefore Daat is not included in the ten Sefirot, for it is the Tifferet, except that it is the inner aspect. And keep this rule well in your hand.

  1. 1Therefore Daat is not included in the ten Sefirot, for it is the Tifferet, except that it is the internality. For the external Guf [body] of ZA is called Tifferet, since the external Guf is the discernment of VAK, and it is known that their essence is the Tifferet, because the Hesed and Gevura in it are from the inclusion of the upper ones, and the NHY in it are from the inclusion of the Nukva. It turns out that the very essence of ZA is only the discernment of Tifferet, and therefore it is called the external Guf of ZA, which includes the Ibur [impregnation] and nursing in it together with the GAR of VAK, whose totality is no more than the discernment of VAK, and therefore it is called only by the name Tifferet.
And the inner Guf of ZA, that is, the Partzuf of HBD in it, which likewise includes Ibur, nursing and Mochin, as above, is called by the name Daat, which is Tifferet from within. The explanation: for it is known that there are no more than six vessels in ZA; rather, in Gadlut [greatness/adulthood] the HGT rise and become HBD, and the NHY become HGT, and new NHY go out for him. It turns out that the discernment of Tifferet of the external Partzuf becomes Daat in the Partzuf of HBD, and it turns out that Daat is no other discernment apart from that very Tifferet of the external, but that it is the discernment of the internality of the Tifferet — that is to say, the Tifferet that became Daat. And this is what he says, “which is Tifferet from within, that comes in the six extremities”; for just as the Tifferet of the external includes VAK alone, so Daat includes no more than VAK, for after all there are no more than six vessels in it, which are the six extremities, and only the HGT became HBD, as is known. And therefore Daat is called by the name Tifferet from within, that is to say, the inner Tifferet. And it is also called by the name Moses and Israel, for the Guf of Daat is called by the name Moses, and the totality of the Partzuf of HBD is called by the name Israel.
And this is what he says, “Therefore Daat is not included in the ten Sefirot, for it is the Tifferet, except that it is the internality; and remember this rule.” For one may object: according to the rule that they are ten Sefirot and not nine and not eleven — and behold, together with Daat there are eleven Sefirot. And this is what he says, that Daat is not a newly added Sefira among the ten Sefirot, since it is in truth only Tifferet, but rather the internality within it, that is, the Tifferet that rises to be Daat at the time of the Gadlut; and if so, even now there are no more than ten Sefirot in it.
And with these words of the ARI you will understand still better what was explained above in the matter of Mati [reaching] and Lo Mati [not reaching] (page 330, the passage beginning “Now”), that the source of Daat is the discernment of the light of Hesed that rose to the vessel of Bina, which came there by force of the exchange of the lights; for the light of Keter remained in the Peh [mouth] of the first Partzuf of AK and did not expand to the Partzuf AB of AK, and therefore the Hochma came into the vessel of Keter, and the light of Bina into the vessel of Hochma, and the light of ZA into the vessel of Bina, and the light of Malchut into the vessel of ZA. And this ascent of the light of ZA, which is Tifferet, into the vessel of Bina became the root for the ascent of the HGT of ZA to the discernment of HBD in the Partzufim [pl. of Partzuf] of Atzilut. See there well in all that follows. With this you will also understand what is written in Part 14, that the main bearer of the illumination of Hochma of the level of Hochma of the thirty-two paths is only the Tifferet, which is likewise drawn from this ascent of the light of Hesed into the vessel of Bina, whereby it became MAN [Mayin Nukvin] to Bina and turned her face to Hochma; and then Bina became Hochma and bestows upon the Hesed, which is ZA. See there. Behold, from all these it follows that Daat is the discernment of ZA himself, who is only VAK, except that he is elevated by reason of his ascent as MAN to Bina, and causes a level of Hochma to come out in her; and therefore he too becomes HBD, for everything that the lower one causes in the upper one is drawn to the lower one as well, and therefore the HGT of ZA became HBD. And understand this, for it is the greatest rule of all, with which to understand all the Mochin of ZA.
