*Know that our sages said that Adam HaRishon was punished by the shedding of limbs. The matter is that at first he was comprised of all the souls that would be throughout the six thousand years of the world's existence, as mentioned, and they were all individual limbs within him. When he sinned, they departed from him, for the Klipot ruled over him, and they all sank within the Klipot, as mentioned by us in Parashat Eikev, in the secret of the eating. Therefore, all our prayers and practical Mitzvot that we perform every day, continually, until the coming of the Messiah, serve to sort out and raise up these souls that fell from Adam HaRishon and sank within the Klipot, until “the legs shall reach the legs,” as mentioned in the Sefer HaZohar in Parashat Pekudei. And when their sorting and correction is completed, then Mashiach Ben David will come.

1Comprised of all the souls that are throughout the six thousand years of the world’s existence: It has already been explained above (page 670, the passage beginning “Adam HaRishon”) that since he is an offspring of ZON of Atzilut, he necessarily includes all three worlds BYA; study it there well. And BYA are called the six thousand years, for Assiya is the two thousand years of chaos, which mean the Klipot [shells]; and Yetzira is the two thousand years of Torah, which is ZA, called the written Torah; and Beriah is the two thousand years of the days of the Messiah, which is Ima, called liberty and freedom, and she is Leah, the mother of Mashiach Ben David.
And the soul of Adam HaRishon included all the souls destined to come out in the three worlds BYA, which are throughout all the aforementioned six thousand years. This means that those Hassadim and Gevurot that are present in all the Partzufim in the three worlds BYA, from which all the souls of the lower ones are born and emerge — all these HG were included in the soul of Adam HaRishon. And therefore the years of the world are six thousand years, corresponding to the number of the souls destined to come out from these three worlds. And this is what he says, “When he sinned, they departed from him, for the Klipot ruled over him, and they all sank within the Klipot,” etc.
2Our prayers and the practical Mitzvot that we perform, etc., until the legs shall reach the legs, etc.: Meaning that all our occupation with prayers and practical Mitzvot is to return and sort out and raise all these souls that fell away from Adam HaRishon and fell into the Klipot [shells], until they are brought to their first root, as they were in him before he sinned with the Tree of Knowledge. That is, as above, that before the sin Adam HaRishon had already come to his final wholeness, to the point that he was regarded as though he had already attained the NRNHY of AK as well. See there.
And this is what he says, “until the legs shall reach the legs.” This means, until the legs of the Partzufim of Atzilut reach the legs of AK, for the legs of AK end at the point of the restriction from the discernment of the first restriction, which is at the point of this world, in the secret of the Mount of Olives.
However, the Partzufim of Atzilut end at the point of the restriction from the discernment of the second restriction, which is the roof of the world of Beriah, as written above (page 641, the passage beginning “And they are found”; study it there well). And it therefore follows that the legs of AK, within which is Ein Sof, do not illuminate in the worlds BYA except in very great concealment, since BYA are, by force of the second restriction, below the line of Ein Sof. However, at the end of correction, after all the souls that fell into the Klipot have been sorted out, then the boundary of the second restriction will be nullified, and the boundary will return to its former state, to the place of the first restriction, and the legs of Atzilut too will end level with the legs of AK, and they will stand in this world. And this is the secret of “the legs shall reach the legs” mentioned above, in the secret of the verse, “And his feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives,” as the ARI writes in Etz Chaim, Gate 3, end of Chapter 2.
