  1. Thus this phase is the first Yud of HaVaYaH, which includes the whole expansion of the Mochin, and is called Hochma. It is the Mem of Tzelem, and it is air, and it is the first six Sefirot of the third Tevuna, and it is called Tzelem, because the two letters Tzadi-Lamed are found in it, their root included here in the Mem.

  1. 1This discernment is the first Yud of HaVaYaH, which includes the whole expansion of the Mochin, and is called Hochma and the Mem of Tzelem, and it is air, and it is the first six Sefirot of the third Tevuna, and it is called Tzelem: As said above, that this discernment of the Tzelem is formed in the womb of the first Tevuna (as above, item 116), meaning in the Rosh [head] of the first Tevuna, which clothes upon the lower third of Tifferet of the whole of AVI and YESHSUT, called the womb. But at the time of birth, when the discernment of the Katnut returned to the womb, to the discernment of VAK, for then the bottom Hey returned to the Einayim as above (page 1054, the passage beginning “and this is what he says, that the externality”), this Katnut descended to the discernment of the second YESHSUT, which is the third for AVI, for the first YESHSUT immediately returned to their Gadlut, as said there. Now, the externality of the womb of the first Tevuna, which was before the birth in the discernment of HBD and Rosh, and after the birth descended to the discernment of HGT called the second Tevuna, which is the third, is the first discernment of the Tzelem, called the Mem of Tzelem. And it is regarded as the first six Sefirot: HBD HGT of the third Tevuna, for although only the discernment of HGT remained in it after the birth, as above, nevertheless, since at the time of Gadlut the bottom Hey will descend from its Einayim and HGT will return to being HBD, it is therefore reckoned, even at the time of Katnut, that it includes HBD in it as well. And therefore it includes the whole expansion of the Mochin, for the bottom Hey that descends from the Einayim returns the AHP that had fallen, and the GAR of lights, which are the Mochin, expand then into the Partzuf, as is known. Thus, in the discernment of the Mem of Tzelem, namely in the HGT of the third Tevuna, the whole expansion of the Mochin is included.
And it is called air, which means: the light of Hassadim called Ruach. For because of the bottom Hey that ascended into the Einayim at the time of the birth, the discernment of HBD in it descended and became HGT, as above, and only the light of Ruach remained in it. However, even in Gadlut, after they become HBD, they are also called by the name air, even though the light of the Neshama is already in it, and this is for a different reason: for in these Mochin too, the matter of the division of AVI and YESHSUT into two Partzufim is regarded, as above (page 1068, the passage beginning “and it is known”), that the upper AVI are in covered Hassadim, and YESHSUT are in revealed Hassadim. See there the whole continuation. And accordingly, the Mem and the Lamed of Tzelem also divide, such that the Mem is regarded as the upper AVI, and the Lamed as YESHSUT, as will be said below. And therefore the Mem of Tzelem is called by the name air even in Gadlut, because there is no discernment of revelation of the illumination of Hochma in the Hassadim in it, and they are covered and concealed from the illumination of Hochma, similar to the light of Hassadim of VAK, except that for the reason of “for He desires mercy” these Hassadim are reckoned as truly GAR, as is known. Thus, no change at all is made in the light of Hassadim that is in the Mem of Tzelem, even after their Gadlut, and therefore it is called by the name air even in Gadlut.
And it is called Hochma, and the first Yud of HaVaYaH, as above, that the Mem becomes, in Gadlut, the discernment of the upper AVI, both of whom are called by the name Hochma, as is known. For Aba is the Yod of HaVaYaH, and Ima is in the discernment of the filling of the Yod, which is Vav-Dalet, because Ima is concealed and hidden within Aba, and only the discernment of Aba is revealed here, as above (page 890, item 42) — see there in the Inner Light. Thus the discernment of the Mem of Tzelem is called Hochma, which is Aba, and it is the discernment of the Yod of HaVaYaH. For they are the discernment of the upper AVI.
