And this is the secret of the enormous trouble that was then upon Israel, of which it is said, "and behold, a great dark dread fell upon him," etc. And the Sages said: this darkness is the exile of Madai, which darkened the eyes of Israel. Its matter is that ZA was then in the aspect of the dormita; and it is known that the wicked Haman was a great astrologer, as is known in the matter of "and he cast Pur, which is the lot, from day to day," etc.; and especially in what is said in the Zohar, that he and his ten sons include all the ten external Klipot. And in his wisdom he knew the matter of the diminution of His providence, may He be blessed, over Israel in those days, for He was in the aspect of sleep; therefore he thought, and it rose in his heart, that the time was ready to destroy the enemies of Israel.
