  1. Now, Hotam [seal] has the letters of Homat [wall], for the seals are like the wall of a city, which guards the people of the city from fear of the enemies that surround it outside the city. Thus the seal of the Yesod and the seal of the Malchut in the female are both alluded to in the verse, as it is written, "Wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river," and it is written, "Upon your walls, O Jerusalem" — these being the Yesod, which is called Zion, and Jerusalem, which is the Malchut in her. Also, Hotam has the letters of Tchum [boundary], to say: thus far is the boundary of Kedusha [holiness], and from there onward are the Klipot [shells]. And this itself is the prohibition of going outside the boundary on Shabbat, that being the place of the Hitzonim [the outer ones], who are outside the outer boundary, which is the Malchut in the Nukva [female].
