And the matter is, that during the three days of absorption the eighteen sparks are corrected, and in the remaining 270 days, 270 sparks are corrected, one spark each day, so that all of them together are the 288 sparks mentioned above. And it is known that the 271 days are besides the days of absorption, for that is why they said in the Gemara (Niddah 38a) that a woman gives birth either at 271 or at 272 or at 273 days, because the 271 days are the necessary days of pregnancy, which are nine months, plus the three days of absorption, about which there is doubt as to whether the conception was on the first, second, or third day. And now the phase of the 270 days of pregnancy is divided into 270 sparks, which remain from the 288 sparks.
