However, I saw for the holy Ari (Rabbi Yitzchak Luria), that even when he prayed according to the custom of the Vatikin and recited the Shema before sunrise, nevertheless he would recite the Shema twice. And the reason is that even for this one condition is needed, namely that those who pray the prayer of the Vatikin and read the Shema with the sunrise must be complete saints (Hasidim), that their intention and thought will suffice to sustain those Mochin after midnight, so that they return by themselves. And behold, not every person is worthy of this in our time; therefore even those who pray the prayer of the Vatikin must read the Shema twice in the morning prayer.
