- For before this, Aba was entirely MaH and Ima entirely BaN. And now that they have been exchanged and mingled, as above, therefore upon their entry within ZA, it is found that the portion of Hochma and Hesed of Aba is given to the male MaH within ZA; and likewise the portion of Hochma and Hesed of Ima, which are also the aspect of MaH, as mentioned. But the Bina and Gevura of Aba and the Bina and Gevura of Ima are given to the Nukva side within ZA himself, called the Malchut in his own body.

And from here the ARI proves that the Mochin must clothe in ZA in this manner: that the NHY of Aba must clothe the Mochin of Aba from the time of the coupling, which are entirely MA; and likewise the NHY of Ima must clothe the Mochin of Ima from the time of the coupling, which are entirely BON. However, at the time of the descent of AVI to their place, from the throat of AA downward, they then return to the level of Bina of MA, and the BON is again divided between Aba and Ima: Aba takes VAK of Hochma of BON, and Ima takes the five lower ones, from the Gevura downward, of Bina of BON, as is known. And it was explained in the preceding part that ZA does not receive the Mochin of Neshama from AVI except after their return to their own place, from the throat of AA downward. And it is now found that Aba is already included of MA and BON, and likewise Ima is already included of MA and BON. According to this it is difficult: how is it possible that the NHY of Aba, which must clothe these Mochin that they received on behalf of ZON above in the place of the GAR of AA, which are entirely the discernment of MA, should clothe them at a time when Aba by himself is already included of MA and BON. And likewise Ima must clothe in her NHY the Mochin that were there entirely in the discernment of BON, at a time when she has already descended to her place and her Mochin are already included of MA and BON. And from here the ARI proves that it is necessary that the Mochin be exchanged: that the BON of Aba, which is his Bina and Gevura, comes into the NHY of Ima, and the MA of Ima, which are her Hochma and Hesed, comes into the NHY of Aba.
And this is what he says, “for before this Aba was entirely MA and Ima BON, and now that they have been exchanged and mingled, as above” — meaning as explained, that he compares the state of AVI that was at the time of the emergence of the Mochin to the state of the clothing of the Mochin. And just as at the time of the emergence of the Mochin the Mochin of Aba were entirely MA and the Mochin of Ima entirely BON, as above, when both of them received the level of Hochma, Aba receiving Hochma of MA and Ima receiving Hochma of BON, so now, at the time of their clothing in ZA, the NHY of Aba became entirely MA and those of Ima entirely BON, that is, in the secret of the exchange, as above.
