  1. 1The reason for the four hundred years of the exile of Egypt, that that exile was the discernment of the departure of the first five of ZA from the four lower ones in him, which is where the level of Malchut is. It has already been explained above that the matter of the Mochin of YESHSUT, which are the weekday Mochin, are regarded as the illumination of the first five, which shine from above downward to the place from the Chazeh [chest] and below of ZA, where the Nukva stands. For when ZA receives the Mochin of YESHSUT in his Rosh [head], he bends his head down to the place of his old NHY, where Jacob stands, who receives them there from ZA and bestows them upon the Nukva. See above, page 1696, item 11, and in the Inner Light there.
And so it turns out that the first five of ZA, which are the Mochin of Gadlut of YESHSUT, are bestowed upon the four lower ones of ZA, which are the TNHY from his Chazeh and below. And from the time of the sin of Adam HaRishon until the redemption from Egypt, these Mochin were lacking in ZA, and ZON were only back to back from the Chazeh and below, without the aforementioned illumination of the first five in the four lower ones of ZA. And this matter was corrected in the redemption from Egypt, for from the redemption from Egypt onward, until the building of the First Temple, ZON were corrected back to back with the aforementioned illumination of the first five, and these Mochin were no longer lacking from them. Thus the essence of the correction that was made through the exile of Egypt was to correct the illumination of the first five of ZA, from the Mochin of YESHSUT, to his four lower ones. And this is the secret of the four hundred years that that exile lasted, namely, in order to correct the four lower ones of ZA, until they would receive the Mochin of YESHSUT permanently, in the discernment of back to back from the Chazeh and below, as above.
