  1. Know that all the couplings that there are in ZON, all of them require that ZON receive influx and illumination from the ten Sefirot of AA, and by this power they can couple. But all the couplings are not equal: for on weekdays, ZA receives his illumination from the Netzah of AA, and all the aspects of ZA are included in the right line, in the Netzah of AA; and Malchut receives her illumination from the Hod of AA, and all her aspects are included in the left line, the Hod of AA; and by this, ZON are not equal as one.

  1. 1All the couplings that there are in ZON, that for all of them ZON must receive abundance and illumination from the nine Sefirot of AA, and by this power they are able to couple. For the essence of every world and of every particular Partzuf is the Partzuf of Keter in it, and the rest are only its branches, all of whose growth they must receive from their Partzuf of Keter; and this prevails both in the general and in the particular. And therefore, since AA is the discernment of the Keter of the world of Atzilut, and AVI and ZON are its branches, it is impossible for there to be in them any growth or coupling unless they receive abundance and illumination from the discernment corresponding to it in the nine Sefirot of AA. And indeed, in truth, all abundance is drawn only from Ein Sof, as is known; yet the branch cannot receive it except by way of the Partzuf of Keter, and precisely from the discernment corresponding to it in the nine Sefirot of Keter.
  2. 2On weekdays ZA receives his illumination from the Netzah of AA etc., and Malchut receives her illumination from the Hod of AA, and by this ZON are not equal as one. And you must know that the ten Sefirot have in them only five discernments: KHB ZON. And they are counted as ten because ZA includes six Sefirot, HGT NHY, as is known. However, these six Sefirot of ZA are not a virtue and an advantage over the GAR, which are counted only as single ones; but on the contrary, they indicate the discernment of deficiency. And this is because all five discernments are included one from another, and there necessarily are in each one of them five discernments, KHB ZON. For in Keter there are five discernments, KHB ZON, and so too in Hochma, and so too in Bina, and so too in ZA, and so too in the Nukva. But the KHB ZON that are in ZA are called HGT NH, and this is because the KHB that are included in the discernment of the Guf [body], which is ZA, are called by the name HGT, for there is no KHB except in the Rosh [head]. And therefore there is no advantage here in the six Sefirot of ZA over the GAR, since those KHB of the GAR are, in ZA, HGT. And Netzah is his own discernment, namely ZA, and Hod is the discernment of his inclusion in the Nukva, who is Hod. Thus the KHB ZON that are included in ZA are called in him HGT NHY. And the ARI has already explained this in Etz Chaim, Gate 11, Chapter 5. Study it there well. And see in Part 5, in the matter of Mati [reaching] and Lo Mati [not reaching] in the ZAT of AB of AK.
However, although each one of the five discernments is included of them all, nevertheless only its own discernment is reckoned in it as the essence, and the remaining four discernments are only by way of inclusion alone. For example, in the Partzuf of Keter the essence in it is only the Sefira of Keter; and in Hochma the essence in it is only Hochma; and in ZA the essence in him is only Netzah, which is his own discernment. And likewise in the Nukva the essence in her is Hod, which is her own discernment.
And this is what he says, “on weekdays ZA receives his illumination from the Netzah of AA etc., and Malchut receives her illumination from the Hod of AA etc., and by this they are not equal as one” — for it has been explained that even though ZA has HGT NHY, his essence is nevertheless Netzah, which is his own discernment, and therefore he receives from the corresponding discernment in AA, only from the Netzah of AA. And likewise the Nukva, whose essence is Hod, receives from the discernment corresponding to her in AA, only from the Hod of AA; and therefore ZA and his Nukva are found one below the other, since Hod is below Netzah. And this is what he says, “and by this ZON are not equal as one.” And we have already elaborated on this above, on page 1691, the passage beginning “Both of them.” Study it there well.
